Man faces jail term trying to smuggle heroin for son

IMPHAL, June 10: A 55 year old man was arrested today by the Sajiwa Central Jail police trying to smuggle five small packets of heroin number 4 for his son who is serving a jail term since February this year.

Additional SP, Jail W Panitphang Tangkhul identified the man as Moses Vasum of Yaingangpokpi, and said he has been handed over to the Heingang Police and taken up a case.

His son identified as Mayangam Vasum 24, an under trial prisoner under FIR number 19 (2) 2014 Lamlai Police station under Section 384 Indian Penal Code.

The police officer said that the man was found with five small packets of heroin no 4, when he arrived at the jail main entrance gate around 10.30am.

Jail guards who conducted a body search, found the packets from inside his inner pocket, he told the media.

The accused father said he had bought the narcotic from a peddler at BOC Namthilok for Rs 100 per packet and was trying to smuggle it for his son.

He said his son and himself were drug users.
