IMPHAL, June 12: The first Manipuri Matam Ishei Festival 2014 was inaugurated today at Lamyanba Sanglen, Palace Compound. The festival was organised by Apunba Manipur Matam Ishei Kanglup, Manipur (AMMIK).
During the function, Md Amin Shah, Parliamentary Secretary, MOBC/Science and Technology attended as chief guest, Shrimayum Nabakumar Sharma as guest of honour and L Birendrakumar Singh as president.
Speaking at the function, Amin Shah said that Manipur is known as the jewel of India, where scattered hidden talents in every fields.
He further expressed that Matam Eshei has been known since long back and celebrated the festival of Matam Eshei is highly appreciable and need to disseminate the originality and reality of the music in Manipur.
He also asserted that people should give equal importance to music alike with sports, education and other human activities and added that he is grateful towards AMMIK for bringing out a positive and constructive way to keep up the trend of Manipur Matam Eshei in the state. He also appealed AMMIK to take up great role in future too.
Later in the function, he donated a sum of Rs 20,000 to AMMIK.
L Brendrakumar Singh said that the most important thing in a song is good lyrics, because lyric expresses the philosophy of a person and also the community.
He also appealed the lyricists of the state to write a good lyric to make a better music.
W Biswanath, non professional singer, professor Life Science Department MU said that music has no language and boundaries and it can be used as a tool to unite the people and it can be expressed in any form.
