IMPHAL, June 6: The Delhi Police has set up a Special Cell to address policing issues pertaining to the people of North East with its office at Nanakpura, Delhi to be supervised by Kime Kaming, DCP/4th Bn, informed a press release of the Home Department, Manipur.
It said a special Help-Line (1093) for attending/accepting distress calls from the people of NE has also been made functional.
“It has been reported time and again in recent years that people hailing from North Eastern States who are residing in the metropolitan cities are facing racial discrimination.”
The ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India had constituted a committee with Member North East Council, (retd IAS) MP Bezbaruah as its chairman and four other retd IAS officers as its members, and deputy secretary, MHA S Saha as member secretary, informed the release.
Further according to the release, joint commissioner of Police, Delhi Robin Hibu will also be in the MHA team to assist the committee.
It said, the committee will examine various kinds of concerns, including the concerns regarding security and discrimination against the people hailing from the NE states and will suggest measures to be taken by the government and legal remedies to address the said concerns.
It also said that the Delhi Police have filed charge sheets on four cases during the current year, where the victims had been from the region.
In connection with an incident relating to altercation with girls and boys hailing from Manipur and local residents in the area of PS Kotla Mubarak Pur, South District, a case has been filed under FIR No. 66/14 dated
January 25 u/s 323/352/354/394/427/509/34 IPC PS KM Pur. The charge sheet of the case has been sent to the Court of MM, Saket Court, New Delhi on March 21 for judicial verdict.
In connection with the alleged rape of a minor girl belonging to Manipur, a case has been filed under FIR No 98/14 dated February 8 u/s 363/366A/376(2)(i)/323/342/509 IPC, Section 4 of POSCO Act read with Section 3 of SC/ST (POA) Act, PS Vasant Vihar, it said.
The charge sheet of the case has been sent to the court of ASJ, Patiala Court, New Delhi on February 27 for judicial verdict, further continued the statement.
Further according to the statement, regarding an incident relating to the thrashing of two Manipuri youth by locals in the area of PS Ambedkar Nagar, a case has been filed under the case FIR No. 89/2014 u/s 323/341/34 IPC (South East District). Its charge sheet has been sent to the Court of MM, Saket Court, New Delhi on March 23 for judicial verdict.
The press release of the Home department has also said that the charge sheet for the case of one Khupsiangen alias Gen,22, son of Lt Sh Chinkulin, resident of C-77, Paryavaran Complex, Saidulluajab, New Delhi under case FIR No. 205/14 dated February 11 u/s 394/397 IPC PS Meharauli, Delhi has been sent to the Court of ASJ, Saket Court, New Delhi on March 21 for judicial verdict.
