IMPHAL, June 8: A one day cleanliness drive was organised on Sunday at Kekrupat by the All Manipur Rickshaw Driver’s and Puller’s Welfare Association (AMRDPWA) in connection with the upcoming observance of the 13th the Great June Uprising, Unity Day on June 18.
While speaking to the media, Roshnikanta Takellembam, secretary organisation of AMRDPWA said that the drive is organised as the association was established in the year 1999 at Kekrupat and also to show respect to the 18 people who sacrificed their lives during the agitation against the extension of ceasefire agreement between the NSCN (IM) and the government of India without territorial limit in June 2001.
He also appealed to the organising committee of the day to keep Kekruat clean at all times as the place is part of the historical Kangla Fort instead of cleaning the site during the upcoming of the observation.
100 members of the association participated in today’s drive, said the association president Basanta Singh.
He further continued that the association has been conducted similar cleanliness drive at the venue every year.
This year AMRDPWA members will not only help all the work regarding the observation by the committee, its members will also donate their blood on June 18, 2014, he said.
