IMPHAL, June 2: Four truck drivers were abducted by unknown armed miscreants near S.B petrol pump at Ambrajan under Bokajan police station in Karbi Anglong, Assam on the night of May 27 when they were parking their trucks near the petrol pump.
“Manipur Road Transport Drivers’ and Motor Workers Union (AMRTD & MWU) has decided to stop plying vehicles along the National Highways, Imphal-Jiribam road and Imphal-Dimapur road, if the concerned authorities fail to rescue the four abducted drivers and hand them over to their family members safe and sound.
In this regard, a memorandum was submitted to the Chief Minister, Deputy General of Police and Inspector of Imphal West today,” the general secretary of AMRTD & MWU, H Khullamani Singh informed the media in a press conference at AMRTD & MWU’s office.
The four abducted persons are identified as Soibam Khomei Singh, 43, son of S Iboyai Singh of Tekcham Maning Ching, Tata Truck bearing Regd. No. AS 01 DC-6737; Soibam Sanatomba Singh, 26, son of S Iboyai singh of Tekcham Maning Ching, Tata Truck bearing Regd. No. ASOl DC 2556; Lampoklakpam Sarat Singh, 38, son of L Prem Singh of Keirak Dam driving Tata Truck bearing Regd. No. AS 01 DC-6738 and Elangbam Romen Singh, 30, son of Irengband Kakching Tata truck bearing Regd. No. AS 01 DD-3060.
The trucks belong to the Metro Trading Agency and transport biscuits and fruit juice from Guwahati to Imphal.
He appealed to the state government to take up necessary actions by intimating the concerned authorities of the Government of Assam for the safe return of the abducted drivers, adding that family members of the abducted drivers have been rendered helpless and urged the unknown miscreants to release them safely.
He further said that if the same condition continues, the drivers who have been facing various hardships in the past may ultimately resort to cease work unless the working condition of the drivers and the workers improve.
Meanwhile, it is reported that some unknown persons claiming to be cadres of the outlawed KYKL have demanded Rs 30 lakhs ransom for the safe release of the four abducted drivers.
Family members of the four abducted drivers, who were also present in the press conference, also appeal for their safe release on humanitarian ground as they were the sole bread winners by working day and night along the National Highways.
