IMPHAL, July 9: The Imphal Municipal Council, IMC, has announced it would be conducting a Nambul River cleanliness drive from July 13 onwards, starting from Keishamthong and concluding at Heirangoithong.
Ng Uttam, Executive Officer of the Imphal Municipal Council said this would be part of a bigger drive to make Manipur a favorite place for the tourists.
Towards this objective, the first priority must be to keep the Imphal city clean, he said during an interaction with the media at his office chamber today.
He also said that there will be a penalty introduced for throwing garbage into the river or on the river banks after the cleanliness drive.
A fine of Rs 2000 will be imposed on anyone found throwing garbage into the river. The fine will be doubled if the same person is found throwing it for the second time, he added.
In this regard, Uttam has appealed to the people to cooperate with the IMC in its effort to keep the Imphal city clean. He maintained that people should consider Nambul River as their own property and participate in its maintenance.
