Investigation in Monika death case almost complete, says Gaikhangam

IMPHAL, July 17: Investigation in the suspicious death of Moirangthem Monika of Thoubal Bamon Leikai has almost completed and the police are waiting for the forensic science reports. Once the reports arrive from the Kolkata laboratory, charge-sheet against the culprit will be framed.

This was Home minister Gaikhangam’s reply to a calling attention motion moved by opposition MLA Th Shyamkumar today.

Gaikhangam further told the House that according to the IO report Monika was found murdered by her husband Bikramjit just four months after their marriage.

Although, Bikramjit’s family has claimed that he is still a juvenile showing his HSLC certificates as age proof, he has already accepted during investigation that he had committed the crime, the Home minister told the House today.

As was demanded by Monika’s parents, the case is handled by an additional SP of Thoubal, and the police have all the required evidences, but is awaiting reports from the Centre Forensic Science Laboratory, Kolkata, he continued.

Further elaborating on the investigation, Gaikhangam said the post mortem of the dead body was also conducted with full video coverage findings from the deceased’s body was sent to the Kolkata laboratory for further investigation.

As soon as the reports arrived, charge sheets will be framed and the culprit booked and punished as per the law of the land, asserted the Home minister.
