IMPHAL, July 9: The Panchayat representatives of the Bishnupur and Moirang Block of Bishnupur District held a sit-in protest at the front of Kujamba Ningshing Shanglen at Bishnupur.
Bishnupur District’s Adhyaksha Ithoibi Devi, 11 members of Zila Parishads, 24 Pradhans and 221 ward members demanded the release of the wages of 100 days’ labour under MGNREGA, the allotment of rightful duties to the Panchayats, a price adjusted hike in the honorariums of the elected members, the enforcement of a three tier Panchayat system in the State and merging of DRDA with Zila Parishads during the sit-in protest.
If the Government doesn’t bring a solution after holding consultations, a rally at the district level will be organised on July 11 and the elected Panchayat members of four valley Districts will also organise a protest rally in Imphal on July 14, stated Adhyaksha Ithoibi Devi.
