IMPHAL, July 1: In bizarre and tragic incident, a four-month pregnant woman was found hanging with her 10-month-old daughter lying dead on a bed in the same room at their Keishamthong Elangbam Leirak today around 3.30pm.

The woman identified as Seram (n) Elangbam (o) Sushila Devi, 33, lived at the house with her husband Elangbam Dhiren, 50 and his first wife Bidyaluxmi.

Her husband is a teacher at the Mayai Lambi Little Master School, while Sushila is also a teacher by profession in private school Promising Kids Academy.

While Dhiren had surrendered before the police around 6pm, his first wife continue to abscond till the filing of this report.

Relatives and locals from her parental home on getting information of the incident rushed to her house but found both the husband and his first wife missing from the scene and the room in a chaotic mess with things scattered everywhere.

Angered by their disappearances, the locals started dismantling the house but timely intervention by the police averted much damage to the house.

A local of Keishamthong Elangbam Leikai said this evening Elangbam Dhiren had gone into his house and yelled, at which the neighbours ran inside to check what had happened.

The locals found the woman hanging with a cloth from the roof while their daughter was lying dead nearby on a bed.

A local said Dhiren had shifted some five years back at the Keishamthong Elangbam Leirak from Keishamthong Elangbam Leikai Lairembi Manak and was staying together with his two wives.

Sushila’s sister, Laishram (o) Memcha said that Sushila had married Dhiren some years back after his first wife failed to bear any child.

She alleged her sister was often tortured by Dhiren and his first wife.

Early this morning, Sushila had called and asked for their father or any other relatives’ phone numbers, she continued.

Sushila had also not attended her school today, she continued while alleging the husband and his first wife of staging Sushila’s suicide.

Memcha said that they found the room in total disarray as if a confrontation had taken place earlier.

Later a large number of police personnel led by additional SP operation Imphal West, K Meghachandra rushed to the spot to take stock of the issue. A fire tender of the State Fire service was also kept stationed in the locality for any eventuality.

Police pulled down the body and a team of the State Forensic expert team examined the crime scene and conducted a full inquest of both the bodies.

The bodies of both the mother and her infant have been deposited at the RIMS morgue for post mortem around 6.30pm.

Police have registered a case in this regard.

Although the area remained tense till the filing of this report, police are deployed in the area.
