Tourism management studies becoming important in Northeast, says MU Registrar

IMPHAL, July 1: Tourism management studies is becoming important in the Northeast region for developing the hospitality industry to create job opportunities and to develop the economy. This was stated by Registrar of Manipur University, Professor N Lokendra Singh at a press conferences to share the feedbacks, observations and experiences of the Sixth International Convention of Bali, Indonesia from June 21 to 24 2014 on Tuesday.

The press conference was organised by Indian Tourism Congress (ITC), Northeast at the office chamber of Registrar Manipur University.

“The Indian Tourism Congress and Bali Institute of Tourism invited eight persons from the Northeast chapter of ITC including Manipur University Registrar Prof. N Lokendra Singh, Dean of Social Science Prof. E Bijoykumar Singh, Prof. Rajendra Kshetri of Nagaland University, Dr. N Zimik of Pettigrew College, Dr. RK Tamphasana Devi with Dr. Umavati Devi of GP Women College, Dr. M Binota Devi of Imphal College, Dr. Lucy Jajo of DM College of Arts to attend the 6th International Tourism Conferences at Bali, Indonesia conducted under the theme “Tourism for Community Development,” he said.

Talking about Bali, he said that Manipur can also be turned into a place for tourism with our rich resources in culture, handicraft and natural beauty.

Professor E Bijoykumar Singh of Manipur University said that Bali by preserving its essential character has lured the tourists with their culture, traditions, and handloom and handicraft products.

Our State also has so many resources comparable to Bali. So, we have to learn from them to take benefit from the tourism industry and develop our State, he said.

The press conference was attended by Manipur University Registrar Prof. N Lokendra Singh, Dean of Social Science Prof. E Bijoykumar Singh, Dr. RK Tamphasana Devi with Dr. Umavati Devi of GP Women College and Dr. M Binota Devi of Imphal College.
