LAMKA: August 8: The Churachandpur-Imphal Taxi Owners’ Society, CITOS in protest against the arrest of its president D Lunkholal Haokip by Manipur Police has warned of resorting to bandh forbidding all kinds of transportation along the stretch of Teddim Road from August 13, a statement from the society said.
The statement signed by its information and publicity secretary has maintained that its president was arrested on false charges by Manipur Police on July 30 at Imphal and subsequently imprisoned. It said the agitation will be taken out indefinitely. An executive meeting of CITO held on August 5 took the decision of the agitation.
It further said that CITOS has been providing a reliable mode of transportation for passengers between CCpur and Imphal, adding that it has never been involved in any sort of illegal activities. CITOS will always stand against any baseless and malicious accusation and will continue to serve the commuters, it added.
Expressing regret over the decision to call bandh, the statement said that CITOS has been compelled by circumstances and has requested the public to bear with the decision.
Cito has further appealed to the two main organisations of CCpur District, namely Zomi Council and Kuki Inpi leaders, as well as community leaders along with students’ bodies of the district to extend moral support.
