LAMKA, August 13: Churachandpur police have seized a huge consignment of Indian Made Foreign Liquor and local brew yesterday evening from a godown at Khumu Jamba.
SP K Kabib called a press conference the same evening to applaud the personnel of Churachandpur police for the accomplishment.
The seizure was made by a team led by SDPO CCpur Immanuel Fimate, SI Thangpu Tonsing and ASI Thanglianmang following certain inputs from reliable sources.
The confiscated consignment include 37 cases of Kingfisher beer, 15 cases of Blue Riband whisky, 25 cases of Officer Choice whisky, two cases of Imperial Blue, 46 cases of Bagpiper whisky, two cases and 20 separate cans of Haywards beer, 15 cases and 336 separate bottles of Foster beer, 16 cases of OC (blue), four cans of Pallone beer, 42 cases of Ramomov Whisky, 21 cases of Mc Dowell whisky, two cases of Tubourg beer, two cases of Budwisers and 11 tin of fermented rise to be used for brewing local booze.
The SP said the owner of the consignment is still absconding; however, he will be produced before the media once he is arrested, he added.
He further said that the exercise of the local police is for the welfare of the society.
Manipur is known for its rice production, but to use it for brewing alcohol is bad for the society, the IPS officer observed.
The SP flanked by the SDPOs of Churachandpur Police and Thanlon Police said the seizure of such a huge consignment which totals up to over Rs 5 lakh is a milestone for the district police.
The Churachandpur police is trying to ensure a peaceful August 15 celebration, he said and added that they will collaborate with the IB, local intelligence, AR, BSF and others to ensure a peaceful celebration in the district.
The police are ready for any disturbances on Independence Day, he said before urging the public to co-operate with the police in the fight against anti-socials.
