IMPHAL, August 2: The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the Tiddim Road Bus Owners’ Association has called a 24-hour bandh along the Imphal-Churachandpur road from midnight of July 3 to July 4 midnight.
The bandh was announced today during a press meet held at the office of the Transporters and Drivers’ Council by the TDC secretary H Ranjit.
Ranjit also announced that the TDC will fully support the bandh.
Ranjit pointed out that the bandh has been imposed to mount pressure on the State authorities to take positive action on the demand of the JAC.
The JAC has been urging the Transport department to check commercial vehicles with unauthorised permits operating along the route.
He has further urged the government to award befitting punishment to the Churachandpur-Imphal Taxi Owner Society president and the IRB personnel (presently attached with the CID) for trying to kidnapped the JAC secretary Dhanabir from Keishampat on July 31.
The transporters under the TDC will also hold a sit in protest at the Nityaipat Chuthek as a mark of protest, while adding that only commercial vehicles will be barred from the purview of the bandh.
