IMPHAL, August 8: Altogether 27 activists of the JCILPS women wing were arrested and detained under judicial custody in connection with staging protest demonstration demanding Inner Line Permit system, were released unconditionally this evening.
Prior to their release the detainees were produced today before the CJM Imphal West court, where they were remanded to further police custody for another 15 days.
While they were brought to the court house by the police personnel, a group of women waiting for them shouted slogans demanding ILP system in Manipur. The detained arrested activists joined shouting the slogan in unison.
The public prosecutor, L Rajen who appeared on behalf of the detainees said that the court gave permission to the 27 arrested activists to apply for the release on bail but the activists declined the offer and demanded unconditional release instead.
However, later in the evening around 5 pm, all the detained activists were released without any condition.
Initially the police arrested altogether 28 of them but one of the woman was released unconditionally taking into consideration the condition of her deteriorating health.
The freed activists walked all the way to All Manipur Student Union (AMSU) office through Ima market area shouting slogan to implement the ILPS in Manipur.
While gathering at AMSU head office, the convenor of JCILP women wing L Nangbi said that the demand for ILP system in Manipur is not a new issue. She continued that implementation of ILPS in Manipur is to safe guard indigenous people of the state.
She further said that the detained executive member of JCILPS, advocate Arjun must be released unconditionally by tomorrow or else there will be intensified agitation.
She said that the charges against Arjun are all unfounded and framed by the Government to suppress the ongoing agitation.
The convenor stated that the agitation to implement ILPS in Manipur will continue without any hesitation and will intensify until it is implemented. She also said that until the demand until not met will be further pursued even if demands a sacrifice from the public.
JCILPS convenor, Iboton Khuman also lauded the stand for the unconditional release of all the detained activists. He said that the agitation for implementation of ILPS in Manipur by its women wing will be supported from every corner of communities of Manipur.
