IMPHAL, September 16: Altogether 12 persons including six women leaders of different civil bodies and six executive members of the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System arrested in connection with the ILPS issue have been sent to judicial custody for 15 days by concerned magistrates.
The arrested leaders were separately produced before the court today.
The women leaders were produced before the CJM Imphal West this afternoon while JCILPS members were produced before the CJM Imphal East.
Sources said that the concerned courts offered to release the leaders on bail however they declined the offer and rather opted for unconditional release.
Owing to their refusal, the court sent them to judicial custody.
It may be mentioned that the women leaders were reportedly arrested by police on September 12 from Uripok area while trying to hold a meeting in connection with prevailing situation arising out of the arrest of JCILPS executives and raids on JCILPS office.
They are identified as Ph Sakhi Devi, president Apunba Manipur Kanba Ima Lup (AMKIL), Th Ramani Devi, general secretary All Manipur Women Reformation and Development Samaj (Nupi Samaj), L Memchoubi Devi, president Poirei Leimarol Apunba Nupi Lup, L Gyanewhari Devi, general secretary AMKIL, Ch Jamini, vice president Nupi Samaj and RK Guni Devi, member Poirei Leimarol.
Meanwhile, the six functionaries of the JCILPS who were arrested by a team of Imphal West district police September 11 evening while attending a meeting at the Haobam Marak Irom Leikai residence of Ibotombi Khuman co-convenor of JCILPS around 5pm by a team of Imphal West district police are identified as Pukhrambam Arjun Singh, 45; Oinam Premjit Singh, 37, son of Ibomcha Singh; Yengkokpam Langamba alias Thabi, 36, son of Ranjit Singh; Soubam Ranjendra Singh, 50 and Wahengbam Sunil Meitei, 28.
Another member of the committee, Sarangthem Manjit Singh, 27, son of Bobo Singh was reportedly arrested from his residence.
They were later formally arrested by the Irilung police from Imphal Police station under FIR no. 81 (9) 2014 IBG P.S.
