Speaking at the function Doctor RS Saxena said that school sensitization is an important component and once such workshop is held in each capital city of North Eastern states. He also explained that the movement of one landmark against the other causes a huge landslide underground and the energy that is released send waves into the earth surface which is called seismic wave or earthquake wave which shake the earth.
However the shaking of the earth causes the civil structure as if wall is weak it will collapse, if the roof is not properly build and cannot resist the release of energy then it collapse. He also said that earthquake doesn`™t kill people but it is the collapsing of manmade structure that killed people.
Saxena further said that unfortunately science has not advanced or can predict when an earthquake will happen, so in such circumstances people should prepare before hand to minimise the impact of such incidents of energy release mainly the earthquake. He also said that `We want children, the future of our country, young minds to carry knowledge about earthquake and to make aware what precautions to be taken during such incident`.
While giving keynote address at the function Principal Scientist, CSIR-NEIST Branch Laboratory, Imphal, Doctor H. Birkumar Singh has said that the workshop was organised mainly for young students so that children are aware of such incidents and also to transmit the knowledge to others as well.
