IMPHAL, September 2: The State government has officially invited leaders of the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System for talks on the issue of the demand for implementation of the ILPS in the State.
On the other hand, the JCILPS has also submitted a written appeal to the Chief Minister to release its executive committee member Advocate Arjun Singh before September 4.
A reliable source informed the IFP that the JCILPS received an official invitation for talks on September 4 at 2pm with a team led by the Chief Minister yesterday, which the former has decided to accept in the interest of the general public.
It is also learnt that the deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam led All-Political Party committee on ILPS has also been invited to attend the talk.
Meanwhile, the JCILPS convened its executive committee meeting today to discuss the issue and further submitted a written application to the Chief Minister to release advocate Arjun who is presently in judicial custody before the meeting, sources said.
The JCILPS has cited that Arjun will also be attending the meeting, sources revealed.
The expert committee of the JCILPS will also be convening a meeting tomorrow to discuss the present development.
However, it will be seeking the opinions of the public and the other CSOs on the issue before the meeting with the Chief Minister at his secretariat, informed the source.
It may also be mentioned that the government has already sought legal and expert opinion on the issue from three senior advocates each of the High Court of Manipur and the All Manipur Bar Association and three scholars from the Manipur University.
