IMPHAL, September 25: The JD (U) has demanded a white paper on whether the present ceasefire between the NSCN IM and the Centre is extended to Manipur or not.

The party State president M Tombi President JD(U) told media persons that the government should produce a white paper before the Hiyanglam by-poll.

Speaking to media persons at the party`™s Babupara office today, he said after the Centre appointed N Ravi as its new interlocutor in the ongoing talks, the NSCN (IM) has claimed that the ceasefire has no boundaries and that the previous NDA government had agreed on the matter.

On the contrary, the government has claimed that it is not extended in Manipur, he said.

This difference of opinion between the two sides has left the people of Manipur in a much confused state he observed highlighting the need for a white paper.

The ceasefire is very much welcome, but the people needs a white paper on the extent of the territory covered by the ceasefire he said.

If in case the NSCN (IM)`™s claim is the truth, the government need to remember the June 18, 2001 uprising in the State which left 18 individuals martyred, he said.
