Massive CBI raids at ousted RIMS Director Sekharjit’s house, official quarter

IMPHAL, September 12: The Central Bureau of Investigation today raided the residence of dismissed Regional Institute of Medical Sciences director L Sekharjit Singh.

The raids which started at around 7:30am continued late into the night.

Raids were simultaneously conducted at nine places including his official quarter and residence.

The administrative block of RIMS Dental College was a prime target and during it documents related to the purchase of dental chairs for the hospital were seized.

It may be mentioned that Dr L Sekharjit was prematurely removed from the post of RIMS director by an order issued by the ministry of Health and Family Welfare on August 25 although his tenure was to expire on September 13, 2015.

A 35-member team of the CBI led by DSP Bhattacharya arrived at Sekharjit’s residence around 7:30am in the morning. Sources said the raids were carried out regarding irregularities in the supply of dental chairs to RIMS and other misappropriations while the former director was in office.

Meanwhile, sources informed that the ousted RIMS director is presently at Delhi, however, his wife Damyenti who was at the quarter during the raid was not allowed to leave the quarter.

On May 23, 2014, the CBI had submitted an FIR copy to the District and Sessions Judge, Manipur East in a non-bailable case bearing number Criminal Miscellaneous case number 41 of 2014 reference RC number 6 (A) 2014/IMP under section 120-B, 420 of the Indian Penal Code, read with 13 (2)/13 (1) (D), Prevention of Corruption Act.
