IMPHAL, September 3: In a reassuring tone for the public of the State in the wake of the economic blockade called by the United Naga Council, the Ministry of Home Affairs has issued that it is committed to finding a solution to the prevailing situation.
The MHA has stated that the government of India expects the Naga organizations to withdraw the call of economic blockade and ban on national projects.
In the aftermath of the two killed in police firing during a rally organized by the UNC to protest against the imposition of the 144 CrPC in Ukhrul, the UNC had imposed an indefinite ban on vehicular traffic along all State and National highways in Naga inhabited areas of the State from September 4 morning.
According to a statement issued by Prakash Mishra, special secretary (Internal Security) Ministry of Home Affairs, the government of India is seized of the situation in Manipur, arising out of recent developments that have caused tensions.
It said the Union Home Minister reviewed the situation today with senior officers and held discussions with the Governor, Chief Minister and deputy Chief Minister of Manipur.
It divulged that the Central government has, for this purpose, recently appointed RN Ravi as the interlocutor with the mandate to find a negotiated solution in a time-bound manner.
However, it is imperative that a conducive atmosphere exists for these talks to take place, it said.
Calling upon all concerned to help maintain a conducive atmosphere and desist from violence, it said that the union Government is expecting the Naga organisation to withdraw the call for economic blockade and the ban on national projects, which will cause serious inconvenience and hardship to the common people.
