IMPHAL, October 18: The All Tribal Students`™ Union today submitted a memorandum to the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to initiate redressal and measures to check the frequent racial discrimination of people from the North East in other parts of the country.
ATSUM suggested engaging iconic personalities as ambassodors to spread the message against racial discrimination and to and to sensitise the people on the issue.
The student body has sought immediate intervention against the `racial discrimination and frequent attacks.`™
The memorandum signed by its president Muan Tombing and general secretary Vareiyo Shatsang said people of the region has been facing several attacks including murders, provocation, racial discrimination, rape, molestation in the national capital and other cities of the country.
The memorandum includes judicial enquiry into racial attacks and befitting punishment for all those involved in such attacks, rehabilitation of victims as it is inevitable to compensate for all medical treatment and psychological trauma until the victims are fully recovered.
It has also demanded sensitizing campaigns at public platforms and through the media to educate the people of mainland India about the North Eastern people.
It also suggested that the police of the national capital, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh and the NE support centre set up at NEC guest house,
Chanakyapuri in Delhi should monitor all the problems of the NE people.
It has also demanded the introduction of the anti-Racial Act to curb the anti social activities, introduction of history of the North East region in text books of schools in Delhi to infused the unity and diversity and composite cultural ethos of India to the pupil from the primary and secondary level.
If the aforesaid demands are ignored by the government, ATSM in collaboration with likeminded social organizations of the North East India will be compelled to undergo intense agitation with no other resort available, added the memorandum.
