IMPHAL, October 13: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Imphal office has summoned three RIMS doctors, in connection with the dental chair supply row of RIMS, a case which had even led to the premature retirement of RIMS director Dr S. Sekharjit.
The doctors have been identified as Prof H Shanti Singh, department of Anesthesia, who was medical superintendent from March 1, 2011 to February 28, 2013; E Devendro Meitei, chief account officer RIMS and Dr Rajiv Ratna, professor of dental college RIMS and the then Principal in-charge dental college.
Reports said that the doctors were summoned to give their statement before the CBI.
The doctors are respondents in a case lodged against Dr Sekharjit by the CBI on charges of corruption regarding irregularities in the supply of dental chairs and other misappropriations. (FIR No.R.C 6(A)2014-IMP u/s 120-B,420 IPC, 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) Prevention of Corruption Act,21.5.2014)
Lal Gopal of M/S Mukherjee Enterprise, Thakur Road, Kolkotta, the main supplier of the dental chair is also a respondent in the case.
Meanwhile it may be mentioned that the Court of the Special Judge, Manipur East had recently rejected the bail plea of Dr S. Sekharjit the main accused in the case.
Sekharjit had submitted a petition praying for granting bail besides a direction for ad-interim pending final disposal of the case.
