ZDF/UPF celebrates 17th raising day

LAMKA, October 11: Zou Defence Volunteer (ZDV)/UPF celebrated its 17th raising day at Tangpizawl village in Singat sub-division, Churachandpur which is about 35 km from Churachandpur.

Mr Kennet who was present in lieu of Thanglianpau Guite graced the event as the chief guest. Member of district council Suanchinpau Guite and P.G. Sianzadong apart from leaders of various UG groups like United Kuki Liberation Front(UKLF),Hmar People Convention(HPC-D),.Kuki Revolutionary Front(KRF), Zomi Reunification Organisation(ZRO,/ZRA) also graced the event.

Speaking on the occasion, the UKLF leader said they must unite as it will make things easier for them in achieving our goals and getting public support before adding that they were demanding the same thing feasible under the Indian constitution and could achieve it with unity.

HPC-D leader Sanga agreeing with the UKLF leader said that the program was an indicator of the fact that they were stepping closer to unity before calling for the unity of all.

ZRO leader Calvin Khenthang said UPF works towards a common platform or goal for all especially the Kuki National Organisation (KNO). We are divided on the basis of language but we are one he said. Calvin further said that they must break free from their narrow interests to survive in this world of technology that makes it possible for them to communicate with one another from a distant location in an instant.

The chief guest made a very brief speech in which he stated that they are the descendents of ZO and so must work together and unite. ZDV president Kamkhanpau paid tribute to the leaders of ZDV who had sacrificed their lives and welcomed those who had come to grace the occasion.

On the sidelines of the program, the ZDV president told media persons that the ZVD was formed at Turning village seventeen years ago and till recently was co-operating with PREPAK initially before forming an alliance with KNO and was now working with UPF due to having similar ideologies.

We signed an SoO with the government in 2005 and joined hands with two others but due to ideological difference with them we broke off the alliance and joined hands with UPF, he said. On the question of signing the SoO, the VDF president said it was a gross mistake.

Lone woman MDC of Churachandpur Autonomous District Council Grace Zamnu said that the revolutionary groups who were under SoO with the government must ponder on the importance of information technology and fine tuned with the present trend. She was also all praise for their sacrifices for cause of the people.
