Foundation Day of Lakhinagar Meira Paibee body observed

JIRIBAM, November 26: The foundation day of the Lakhinagar Apunba Meira Paibee (LAMP) was commemorated at Lakhipur Sub-Division, Cachar, Assam this morning.

Speaking as the chief guest, All Assam Manipuri Women Meira Paibee Co-ordinating Committee, Assam president Soubam (O) Jayenti Devi said the leader among the Meira Paibees is usually someone who can serve others with a sense of sacrifice while urging the Meira Paibees of Lakhinagar to do whatever they can to make the place develop and earn the respect of other people.

Urging people to help the inhabitants of the sparsely populated village, she said that the people of Lakhinagar shouldn`™t feel discouraged and always be willing to take on challenges.

She also rallied others to join in the efforts to help develop the village and urged the civil organisations in neighbouring Jiribam, Manipur to help the Lakhinagar villagers in their times of need.

In his welcome and keynote address at the first commemoration of the women`™s body, LAMP advisor Arun stressed on the need for people to work together as the Meitei village situated near Jiribam is facing a lot of difficulties.

Among the invitees, Jiri Ima Meira Paibee Apunba (JIMPAL) advisor B Sharat Sharma in his speech described Meira Paibees as `Commandos of a locality` and lay stress on the various challenges they have to face in this fast changing world.

He also emphasised that a leader of any Meira Paibee organisation cannot become one without having a sense of sacrifice.

During the function, an 11 member executive body was also elected today. The new office bearers will serve for three year tenure. Kshetrimayum Subhasini Devi and Epham Shila Shani were elected the president and general secretary respectively.

Subhasini Devi presided over the function while JIMPAL president Huirem (O) Mema Devi, Jiri Development Organisation (JDO) president Mutum Hemanta Mangang, All Assam Students`™ Union (AAMSU) president Seram Herajit Singh and All Manipur Students Union (AMSU) District Committee, Jiribam president Yengkhom Sanjit Singh were the guests of honour.
