IMPHAL, November 24: Crimes against women has been rapidly on the rise in the land although civilisation has brought the light of education, said a press release of the proscribed People`™s Revolutionary party of Kangleipak, PREPAK.
The press release signed by the outfit`™s assistant secretary Publicity and Propaganda Leibak Ngakpa Luwang said it supports the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women which is celebrated on November 25.
It has become necessary to look into the rapidly increasing number of assault on women including sexual assault in the last few years, said the statement.
During this year till November 10, 40 women have been raped and 61 have been killed in the land, said the statement.
Of the 61 killed, 24 were mercilessly killed while 16 others died under mysterious conditions, it continued. Of the 16, 13 including four pregnant women were married and running their households, it said.
On the 24 mercilessly killed, four were below the age of 10 years and were killed after being raped, it said.
The statement also observed that of the 40 rape cases, 26 girls including 13 who are under 10 years of age were raped by boys below the age of 18 years.
According to newspaper reports, there were 287 cases of crimes against women in the land during the year till November 10, it said.
The statement further said that in 2010 there were 78 cases of CAW, 166 in 2011, 304 in 2012, 285 in 2013.
