Sangai Festival draws record Sunday crowd

IMPHAL, November 23: Third day of The Sangai Festival-2014 featuring magnificent cultural dances from the district of Senapati at Bhagyachandra Open Air Theatre, BOAT, Hapta Kangjeibung, Imphal, attracted a huge Sunday crowd.

The cultural presentations accompanied by Qawwali of Rahim Cultural Foundation, was applauded enthusiastically by the capacity crowd at the theatre.

In addition, Gostha Leela from Raang Tarang Mandal, Drums of Manipur by Rhythms of Manipur and Nonglhong Phambal Koiba dance from Khonjel Artist Union also enthralled the spectators in the course of the day.

The cultural presentations were also witnessed by Minister IFCD/Printing & Stationery Ngamthang Haokip, Minister RD & PR/ Econimics and Statistics Francis Ngajokpa, MLA Y Erabot Singh, MLA Nemcha Kipgen, MLA V Alexander Pao, MLA Kh Joykishan Singh, MLA Konthoujam Sharat Singh, MLA Yamthong Haokip, DGP Shahid Ahmed, Principal Secretary Home/Health & Family Welfare J Suresh Babu, Commissioner Co operation K Mosses Chalai, Chairperson Manipur State Social Welfare Board Ch Leibaklotpi Devi, other state officials and visitors from abroad.

At the main venue of Hapta Kangjeibung food stalls were a popular crowd puller. Stall owners said there was a quantum increase in customer inflow from yesterday, perhaps because it was a Sunday today.

An indigenous food stall from Kakching said they have been managing sale of about Rs. 8000 daily.

A Kentucky Fried Chicken, KFC, stall opened by Guwahati KFC outlet drew huge crowd consistently at the festival. According to stall keepers, the KFC stall is fetching as much as Rs 20,000 sale a day so far and prospects are it will only increase in the coming days as the people come to know of the popular fast food`™s presence at the festival.

From the state departmental side, Department of Vet nary & Animal Husbandry stall was a crowd puller showcasing rabbits from Germany known as `Angora`™. It is learnt from the stall that Angora are imported from Germany, first it is delivered at Kullu Manali then Sikkim and then it is transported to the state.
