Ukhrul DC calls for prosperity of the people

UKHRUL, November 26: Although Ukhrul district is rich in natural resources, the people continue to have poor income generation and it is time to ensure prosperity for the whole populace of the district.

This was stated by Ukhrul DC Hrisheekesh Modak while inaugurating the 8th Exhibition cum sales as Chief Guest here at TNL Ground on Wednesday. The three day exhibition extravaganza is being organised by UDCRMS / NERORMP (IFAD) Ukhrul to promote indigenous produces of the district.

He said that the district is naturally endowed with rich flora and fauna but despite this, the people continued to receive poor income and it was imperative to improve the economic condition of the denizens of the district.

” Of course, there some enterprising individuals in the district who are successful,`™ he continued adding `But they should not be the exception and we must ensure prosperity for all.`

He then stressed upon the need to secure ample livelihood for all the people while also advocating preservation of land and forest and assured to extend assistance in ensuring livelihood of the people from his side.

In his welcome address, project manager, UDCRMS. Ukhrul Tychius Vashum called upon the people to promote the culture of crop cultivation as practised and handed down by our forefathers.

`We must continue to keep alive the tradition of our forefathers who taught us to sow seeds for our livelihood,` he pleaded.

Products on display was by a team of female students of the Sentinel College, Ukhrul, while traditional chanting and trumpet display was brought by Shimkhayei Vashum, an elder from Talui village.

DC Modak also released a book titled `Agronomic practices under NERCORMP `during the inaugural ceremony, after which he cut the ribbon and inspected stalls put up at the venue. Vote of thanks was toasted by Ningreingam KH. Business Dev. Officer, UDCRMS, Ukhrul.

Altogether 37 SHGs and departmental units are participating in the mega event. A wide variety of indigenous agricultural produces were put up at all the stalls and brisk business could be seen as a large crowed of buyers thronged the venue to make purchase of their favourite items.

Meanwhile, as part of the event a team of UDCRMS / IFAD Ukhrul along with media persons today inspected various sites including Longpi pottery and Lunghar pea cultivation which are being sponsored by IFAD Ukhrul.
