BISHNUPUR, December 2: Awareness programmes on consumers`™ rights and duties should also be conducted in the interior parts of the State, said Peoples`™ Resource Development Association, PRDA Bishnupur secretary L Suranjoy today.
A consumer awareness programme on `Consumers`™ rights and duties`™ was conducted today at Ishok Village organised jointly by the Consumers`™ Club Manipur, Peoples`™ Resource Development Association, PRDA Bishnupur and Indian Red Cross Society, Bishnupur district under sponsorship of the Consumers Affairs Food & Public Distribution.
He said the public should attend such programmes and workshops to be aware of their rights and duties as a consumer.
Speaking as a guest of honour, IRCS, Bishnupur chairman I Jugeshwar said we enjoy our rights as a consumer but fail to commit to our duties.
As consumers we use electricity, however, we fail to pay our taxes which is our duty as a consumer, he elaborated.
Today`™s programme was attended by Leimapokpam Zilla Parishad member L Turambi Leima; Consumers Club, Manipur president P Arunkumar; Ishok GP pradhan Ashem Sangita; IRCS, Bishnupur chairman I Jugeshwar; CAF&PD DSO W Deben; PRDA secretary L Suranjoy and Chingphu Sheireng Sheidam Lup secretary H Brajamohan as the chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.
District Consumer DisputesRedressal Forum Imphal former president Ch Narendra and nodal officer Food Safety Ch Sanajaoba spoke as resource persons.
Arunkumar said, when we think of consumer, we only consider people who buy things and get into bargaining, however, we should not forget that we are all consumers.
