JCILPS concerned after finding beggars in State capital

IMPHAL, December 15: A non-local woman was found distributing prayer pamphlets and begging along with some minors on the streets of Imphal by volunteers of the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System today.

JCILPS advisor Ramani said the lactating woman identified as Sobi Rai, 22, wife of Raju Rai of Rajasthan Jaipur Palli was found along with three juveniles begging for money. They were later brought to the committee`™s office, she said adding that the government cannot ignore this issue and should investigate into it.

She said Sobi Rai said she was staying in Thangal Bazar and had arrived along with 14 others in Imphal via Silchar yesterday.

The woman, who had a gold teeth capping also said that all 14 of them had arrived in the State to beg for their livelihood and that her husband was in another part of the country doing the same thing.

She said they had separated in groups and were scattered around the State capital.

She also told media persons at the office of the JCILPS that Manipur is very popular among them and so they had arrived here.

The woman and the children were found with sheets of paper with prayers in Hindi and English scribbled on it, said Ramani.

Meanwhile, members of the committee said they will be handed over to the police after proper verification.
