IMPHAL, December 13: Manipur Students Association, Delhi (MSAD) observed Nupi Lal on December 12 with the theme `Resist Colonialism` in New Delhi.
As a part of the event, an essay writing competition on the topic `Context and Causes of Nupi Lal 1904 and 1939` was also organised.
The yearly magazine of MSAD for this year, Maheirol 2014, and Malem Ningthouja`™s book `Diametrical Nationalism Rulers, Rebels and Masses in Manipur`, were also released during the occasion.
Various speakers during the occasion observed that the day was being commemorated to take a common stance against the long practiced repressive measures adopted by the colonial government and its exploitative neo-liberal policies, and strive for creating an egalitarian and liberated society.
They maintained that nothing has changed ever since Manipur came under the colonial yoke of the Britishin 1891 while also observing that the conditions which caused Nupi Lal in 1904 and 1939 still persist.
They unanimously agreed that the people of the State lack a true revolutionary spirit and practical revolutionary strategies. Those gathered to mark the event maintained a customary two minutes silence to pay their respect to those who took part in the two Nupi Lals and those who had fought for bringing in a liberated and developed society.
