CHANDEL, December 15: The 23rd foundation day of Social Development Organization (SDO), Pallel was organized under the theme “Igniting the youths for a better tomorrow” at Pallel Khongnang Achouba in Thoubal District today.
Govindas Konthoujam, minister, Commerce and Industries, Sericulture, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry; Y. Surchandra singh, MLA Kaching A/C; Kh. Menjor Mangang, founding chairman KM Blooming Higher Secondary School, Khangabok and RK. Somendro alias Kaiku, film actor graced the function as the chief guest, functional president, guest of honour and special guest respectively.
Govindas Konthoujam said without unity, there cannot be peace and if there is no peace, there will be no development. So, We should bear in our mind that unity between the valley and hill dwelling brethrens who were settled together since time immemorial is a must for the development of the State, added the minister.
While stating that many changes have taken place in Manipur as a result of the Look East Policy, the minister also stated that people must accept such changes and try to keep pace with it, he added.
He further said that Pallel is situated at a strategically important place. As such, an Integrated Logistic Hub will be established at Pallel by the State government under the leadership of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, he added.
The Integated Logistic Hub will provide employment opportunities and improve the economy of the local populace which in turn will bring development, he added.
Kakching MLA, Y. Surchandra Singh also said that Pallel is located at a strategic place since World War 2. And as a result of Asian Highway passing through it, a lot of changes will take place in and around Pallel. So, the people of Pallel should go along with changes and should try to reap the benefits from such changes, said the MLA.
He also said that the state government has sent a proposal for construction of a dam at Kangoi Irangpham to the central government for its approval.
If this big dam could be constructed, it would bring more development and the people of Pallel will also benefits from the
project as it will provide electricity and water for irritation, said the MLA.
Apart from exhibiting Khamba Thoibi Dance, Pung chollom and Tarao Cultural dances, gifts were also presented to six oldest living persons of the village including three elderly women during the function.
Prizes for a cleanliness drive competition, which was held in connection with Irabot Day were also distributed besides presenting a citation and shawl to Manipuri Film actor Kaiku for his contribution towards the Manipuri Films.
