IMPHAL, December 24: The 20 Assam Rifles of HQ 26 Sector AR has carried out a joint poppy destruction drive in Chandel district from December 17 to 19 with teams of Narcotics Control Bureau, Narcotics Action and destroyed illicit poppy cultivation of opium plants after having the plants systematically examined.
According to a release of the PRO, the opium yield that measured approximately 3736 kg and worth approximately Rs.30 crore was destroyed by burning. The opium plantation was spread over an area of 236 acres in the higher reaches, it said.
