THOUBAL, December 11: The opening ceremony of the 2nd Kakching Festival which will be held for five days at Kakching Wairi Khunjampat Ground and organised by Joint Non Government Voluntary Organisation (JNGVO) Kakching was graced by Youth Affairs and Sports and Parliamentary Secretary of Tourism, Mairembam Prithiviraj Singh as chief guest, Kakching A/C MLA, Yengkhom Surchandra Singh as president and Kakching Municipal Council Chairperson, Kshetrimayum Subadani Devi as guest of honour today.
The festival was held on the theme `Uphold Cultural and Linguistic Identity`™ and with the aim to exhibit and to preserve the various culture and tradition of Kakching.
The festival was opened with the lighting of ceremonial lamp by the chief guest with the fire from Kerjing by torch rally. The opening of the festival was held with a Friendly Football Match followed by Kakching Lai haraoba and Kakching Musical Nite held at night.
As part of the festival, sports, various cultural items along with gift presentation to senior citizens will be held. The festival will also exhibit a demonstration of iron smelting done during olden times.
A poster campaign and street corner meeting on crime against women were also held.
