State lad gets prestigious awards of Bhatkhande Music institute

IMPHAL, December 14: Laimayum Nelson Sharma has bagged the prestigious Rai Umanath Bali Gold Medal and Lila Wamanrao Sadolikar Gold Medal award, of the Bhatkhande Music Institute, a deemed university in Lucknow.

According to a release, Nelson topped the annual examination of the university in the discipline of Sitar, Master of Performing Arts. The awards were handed over by the Governor of Uttar Pradesh, Ram Naik during the 4th Convocation of the university, held at the Ravindralaya Auditorium, Lucknow last month.

It said Rhythms of Manipur organised a reception function to felicitate Nelson at its office today at Uripok Imphal.

Nelson is also currently pursuing MA degree in the English department of Manipur University; he is the youngest son of L Chaoba, former lecturer of Sitar at the Government Music College, Imphal, the release added.
