IMPHAL, January 11: The five-day long Brajachand Theatre Festival, organised by the Khundrakpam Brajachand Memorial Trust, commenced today at the auditorium of the Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy

Speaking at the function as the chief guest, Ksh Ibohal Singh, president of the Manipur Dramatic Union, said the condition of theatre in the State remains poor and need to be improved which however doesn`™t mean that the people lack potential.
Many talented people in the field of theatre and arts emerged but they disappeared abruptly from the field of theatre and arts. Such a trend has been continuing from many years and it baffles, he added.
Ibohal appealed the people to support them in their endeavour for uplifting arts in the State.
In her speech as a guest of honour, Arts & Culture director Dr K Sobita Devi said people should try to follow the ideals contained in the plays written by Khundrakpam Brajachand to better the society.
It is learnt that people who are working in theatres are facing financial difficulties so the Arts and Culture department is trying to provide best possible help for the development of theatre, she said.
After today`™s inaugural session, a play written by Khundrakpam Brajachand title `Mathangee Yenningthada` was enacted by the Cosmopolitan Dramatic Union.
