IMPHAL, January 24: The dead body of 13 year old Md Illiyas Khan, who was killed in the alleged police firing yesterday at Lilong, was later picked up by police late in the night and deposited at JNIMS morgue.

The dead body was lying there on the road for quite some time as the police could not enter the place as the situation turns quite tense after his death.

A public meeting was held today at Lilong Ching-Kham Maning Loukon and formed a JAC in connection with the incident.

The meeting has demanded CDO personnel who were involved in the killing terminated from their jobs immediately.

Other demands include, CBI enquiry into the case, construction of a library in the name of the deceased person, a government job to the next of kin of the deceased, and also government assistance for the injured.

The meeting further demanded resignation of the Home Minister and DGP charging them of failing to maintain law and order.

They also demanded local MLA Minister Nasir to come out clean regarding the issue or he will be boycotted.

On the other hand, the curfew imposed by the State government in the area as well as the bandh imposed by LIPUL continues.

LIPUL has demanded MLA Md Nasir to resign from his post on moral ground.

`Being a representative of the people it was his responsibility to handle the situation calmly,` LIPUL president Md Wahajjuddin said.

In spite of the curfew imposed by District Magistrate from Lilong Bridge to Waithou, bandh supporter came out in large numbers and block the road by burning tyres and using big logs, broken glasses etc.

However no untoward incidents were reported during the course of the bandh today.

Yesterday, after the death of Illiyas Khan, an angry mob stormed Lilong PS.

Two Maruti cars which were parked inside the campus of Lilong PS, which were seized by the police in separate cases, were burn down completely. Window panes, doors of Commando barrack and the windshield of a deployment bus of 3rd IRB were also damage in attack.

LIPUL president Md Wahajjuddin said only the 4 km stretch that is from Lilong Market to Waithou is left out in the road widening works taken up by the government.

`We are demanding to start the road widening works for this left out 4 Km stretch which has become an accident prone area due to the narrow road,` he said.

`We have reminded the government many times and at last given a deadline of January 20,` he said.

From January 23 onwards we announced for an indefinite Thoubal distinct bandh, he added.

The today`™s meeting was also attended by AMUCO advisor KT Rahman, villager leaders, student bodies, local club representatives and the general public of the area.
