IMPHAL, January 21: There is no respite in bomb blasts in the State capital even though security measures have been beefed up ahead of Republic Day celebration.
Four powerful Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) exploded in two different places in the State today.
Barely a day after an IED blast yesterday under the Lamlong Bridge, another powerful IED exploded in the heart of Imphal this morning.
The IED exploded around 10:55 am along the busy Nagamapal road about a quarter of a kilometre west from City Police Station. However, no human casualty has been reported from the blast.
The IED was planted under a tree standing inside a crematorium ground along Nagamapal road opposite Singjubung Leirak.
The IED was detonated using a remote control device and the intensity of the blast was so powerful that it ripped off the tin roof of a shed near the crematorium.
The blast could inflict serious human casualties had the public toilet complex standing in between the explosion and the road not taken the full impact, sources said.
Media persons were barred from entering the blast site by a team of city police on the ground that forensic experts are yet to arrive.
However, a team of the SP Imphal West, top police officials and a bomb disposal team also rushed to the blast site.
On the other hand, three powerful IEDs exploded simultaneously at T Minou village about eight Kilometre south from Moreh police under Chandel district this early morning.
The bomb was reportedly detonated using remote control device around 6.30 am at a place locally known as `water point`™, a water source used by 9AR F company post at the area.
However, no casualty has been reported due to the explosion.
It has been informed that the bomb could have been intended to target a team of 9AR coming to collect water, however exploded before the arrival of the team.
