Pledges made to abide by constitution on National Voters Day

IMPHAL, 25 January: As celebrated in other parts of the country the National Voters Day was also celebrated in the State today.

A district level observance of the National Voters Day was held at the Imphal East DC complex. It was organised by the Election Department, Government of Manipur.

The District Level National Voters Day observation was attended by Imphal East deputy commissioner M Joy Singh; Imphal East sub-divisional officer Suren Singh; assistant deputy commissioner Somorjit Salam; Imphal East SP Angam Kamei; Addl. SP Imphal East Manjit; Porompat SDO, L Delina; Sawombung SDO, Ayekpam Bidyarani and Keirao Bitra SDO, N Bandana.

Imphal East Deputy Commissioner M Joy Singh led others in taking a mass pledge to abide by the Indian Constitution and caste votes while also to promote a free and fair election system.

Speaking on the occasion, Joy Singh said there are about 85,0000 election booths in the country but enrolment of youths is still less than 30 percent. He appealed the youths of the nation who have already attained the age of 18 years to enrol for availing the Election card also known as EPIC (Electronic Photo Identity Card). He added that a system has already been put in place where one can either acquire the EPIC or correct their EPIC in an easy way.

He also appealed people to cast their votes fairly in the upcoming elections without any fear.

Newly enrolled EPICs were also distributed by the dignitaries today at the function to mark the day.

Meanwhile, DC office, Thoubal also observed the National Voters Day under the theme `Easy registration and easy correction` at the DC Conference hall today. The gatherings took the NVD pledge.

The function was presided by T Ranjit Singh, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Thoubal and Ksh Lemba Singh, ADC/ADM, Thoubal.

Our Bishnupur correspondent adds: National Voters`™ Day was celebrated at Block Resource Centre Bishnupur today jointly organized by District Administration Bishnupur and Election Department. Bishnupur DC Bobby Waikhom, SDO Bishnupur L Radhakanta, SDO Moirang Bantee Konthoujam and SDO Nambol Ramananda Nongmeikapam attended the function as chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.
