IMPHAL, January 20: A team of Imphal West District Police Commando unit arrested two active members of UNLF organization during frisking and checking near Adarsh laboratory, Kanglapat yesterday.
The two have been identified as Naorem Robindro Sigh alias Ireicha alias Inao, 28, son of N Kala Singh of Yairipok Top Chingtha Mamang Leikai and Hijam Sunil Singh, 37, son of H Ibobi Singh of Thoubal Athokpam Mayai Leikai.
According to a police release the two came riding a two wheeler along with a third person.
On spot verification, it was learnt that the duo brought the third person identified as Ashem Sanathoi Singh alias Thoiba, 17, son of A Suresh Singh of Yairipok Top Chingtha Pukhri Achouba Mapal for recruiting in the proscribed organisation, UNLF, police said.
Investigation revealed that the first arrestee Naorem Robindro Singh was entrusted for extortion of money from general public and recruitment of new cadres. Incriminating articles were seized from his possession, it said.
Investigation also revealed that the second arrestee Hijam Sunil Singh was involved in recruitment of new cadres for UNLF organization, it said and added that incriminating articles and one Activa DLX, grey in colour, without registration number were seized from his possession.
The rescued person A Suresh was handed over to his father Asem Suresh Singh, police said.
A case has been registered at City Police Station and investigation is going on.
On the same day, a combined team of Thoubal District Police Commando unit, 20 AR and 22 AR conducted frisking and checking in and around Keirak area.
During the frisking and checking, one active member of PREPAK organization identified as Md Nahachouba alias Chensam alias Achouba, 30, son of Md Ibomcha of Keirak Makha Leikai was arrested, it further said.
Investigation revealed that he was involved in extortion, transportation of IEDs and recruitment of PREPAK cadres, it said.
A case has been registered at Kakching police station and investigation is going on, it added.
