IMPHAL, January 24: Irom Sharmila has been re-arrested again last night and has been booked under the same charge of “attempt to suicide” under 309 IPC.

The Judicial Magistrate First Class/Imphal East Wisdom Kamodang in a ruling ordered the release of Irom Chanu Sharmila on January 22 dismissing the charge levelled against her by the police under IPC section 309 and 353.

Right after she was released from the judicial custody she went to Khwairamband Keithel Samu Makhong and continued her protest again.

She was arrested last night at around 9 pm by a team of City Police from her protest site.

A case has been register under FIR No 12 (1)2015 city PS u/s 309 IPC against her at City PS.

Police today produced her before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal RK Memcha Devi at Uripok Cheirap Court Complex.

The court has remanded her for 15 day in judicial custody.

Meanwhile, Save Sharmila Solidarity Campaign (SSSC) has in a press statement condemned the re-arrest of Sharmila and appealed the Govt of India to intervene in the issue and to order immediate release of Sharmila.

`Save Sharmila Solidarity Campaign (SSSC), a nation-wide campaign in support of Irom Sharmila and against AFSPA, condemns the re-arrest,` it said.

`SSSC considers this re-arrest of Irom Sharmila as a mockery of judiciary by the state. While the judiciary had released her by quashing the charges of “attempt to suicide”, the state has re-arrested her on the same grounds,` it said.

`SSSC believes that it is a failure of state to resolve the issue of AFSPA and it is making Sharmila, a victim of state,` it said.

`At this time when few days ago, even the government said that it is considering the decriminalization of the 309 IPC, it seems that the state functionaries are trying to get the benefit till the time the government decriminalises it,` it said.

SSSC also appealed that immediate steps should be taken to repeal AFSPA, the cause for which Irom Sharmila is protesting.

`AFSPA must be removed in view of large scale human rights violations. Even the state leadership of present ruling party in Central govt had favoured in repealing of this act. The state unit of BJP had promised to repeal AFSPA during the elections,` it added.
