IMPHAL, January 16: The Indira Gandhi National Tribal University Students Union has imposed an indefinite class boycott locking down the main gate of the university campus decrying the government`™s failure to fulfil their demands including recognition of the university as a full-fledged university.
President of the union, K Bowang told media persons that the union had discontinued its earlier agitation on the same demand following the Chief Minister assurance during a meeting with representatives of the union in July 2014 to provide the necessary infrastructure at the earliest.
However, the authorities have failed to look into the demand despite of the Chief Minister`™s assurance which necessitated the union to renew its agitation, he said.
He said this time the union will continue until the demands are met.
The union is demanding provision of the students`™ requirement before the new academic session, completion of the university`™s original campus at Makhan Village, Bowang said urging all concerned to maintain quality in the construction of the main complex of the university.
He said the university is also lacking a full-fledged director and the vice-chancellor of the university has been taking charge of the post.
The student union has been demanding filling up of the post for long, but the concerned authorities have failed to take any proper action.
