IMPHAL, January 7: Despite the sanction of Rs 87 crores for the repair of the 71 km long IT road by the State Public Works department, it has surfaced that quality has not been maintained in its black toppings, alleged Tamei A/C MLA, Z Kikhonbou Newmai today. He also mentioned the discovery of other irregularities in the road repair work.

He was interacting with media persons today after an inspection tour of his assembly constituency the day before. He informed that it came to his notice that in some portions of the newly laid IT road, the black topping has started to peel off while demanding strict actions against those contractors who were responsible for the road construction from the concerned Minister.

The Tamei MLA said the road repair work which is still in progress after more than one and half years is around 70 percent complete.

The construction of the road is not yet completed but it needs to cover every portion of Kangpokpi to Tamei before the rainy session.

Newmai appealed to the concerned Minster to look into the matter and also appealed the concerned engineer to do much more for the construction of the road. Public participation plays a vital role in the development of a village; so support and cooperate any developmental work in the village, appealed Tamei A/C MLA Z Kikhonbou Newmai to the Thenjing villagers while assuring all possible help from his side to the villagers.

He was later speaking at the inaugural of the late Helkhotinpao (Bahpu) playground before opening the Fifth Tuhsomlou Golnop as the chief guest. By the end of February this year, electricity will be provided to the villagers as he had requested the Chief Minister about the electrify woes in Thenjang village. The upgrade of the road that provides connectivity between Tamei to Thnjang village to an all-weather road has been included in the RGGBY scheme which is likely to be taken up soon.

The problem of lack of a telephone network in this area will be soon over, he informed the villagers.

He also mentioned that the Thenjang Junior High School will be upgraded to a High School under RMSA while promising to consult the Education minister to make it happen.

Tamei is naturally fertile so people should take its advantage by growing various vegetables for increasing their income. The Parkia Speciosa (locally known as Yongchak) produced in Tamei is quite popular in the Imphal market but unfortunately its cultivation is being neglected by the farmers of the area. He further appealed people to grow this crop as the soil of the area is conducive for its growth.
