IMPHAL, February 24: A buyers- sellers meet between handloom clusters and entrepreneurs under the handloom cluster project of the Union Ministry of Textiles was held today at Young Paite community hall, Upper Lamka in Churachandpur district. It was organised by the District Handlooms & Textile Office, Churachandpur and Manipur Apex Handloom Weavers`™ & Handicraft Artisans CS Ltd.
Speaking to media persons, Churachandpur district Handloom and Textile project manager Th Ibemcha Devi said the aim of organising the meet was to promote the weavers and to give a platform to sell their products. In the State, weavers are finding difficulty in selling their products, so for the advantage of the weavers, some prominent exporters of State are participating in the buyers- sellers meet to be able to export the products of the weavers.
As compared to other hills districts of the State, Churachandpur district produces the most handloom products and it needs to be encouraged for the promotion of weavers and also to promote their indigenous items, she said.
As a part of the function, six fly-cycle looms were distributed to six weavers.
