MUSU inspects university to identify poor infrastructure

IMPHAL, February 3: Volunteers of the Manipur University Students Union inspected several departments to find out any cases of damaged infrastructure, improper electrical fitting and lack of equipments which ought to be availed to students, as a part of its agitation demanding that MU authorities act on its charter of demands submitted on December 31 last year.

During the inspection, the volunteers accompanied by media person found many cases of damaged infrastructure, lack of equipments and that a fencing wall around 200 meters long was still incomplete. The volunteers have decided to not have any discussions with officials of Manipur University until they clarified through a statement that they would not without cause any further delay in acting on their demands.

Speaking at a press conference at its office, MUSU president David Sarangthem stated that they will ultimately informed the HRD ministry and UGC about their grievances if the authority or the Vice-chancellor fails to act on their charter of demands soon because the authorities have failed to act on their demands so far.

`The authorities of the varsity called us for an open discussion on January 2 which was attended by HODs of various departments and MUSU volunteers. The VC asked us to give our opinions when we attended the meeting but left the place which was meaningless of calling the open discussion in the first place`, he said.

The MUSU president said it gave the students body an immense dissatisfaction to know that the authorities were not able to maintain Manipur University which was now a Central University.

MUSU Vice-president A Babina said research scholars were facing problems of not receiving their funds properly, highlighting that the girls hostels lacked electricity, water which needed to be provided at the earliest.
