IMPHAL, February 21: In collaboration with the Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy, Naharol Sahitya Premi Samiti, Imphal has organised an awards presentation function today at JNMDA hall.
Planning and Development Authority chairman T Mangibabu Singh and Naharol Sahitya Premi Samiti president P Polem Nabachandra attended the function as the chief guest and president respectively.
In his address, T Mangibabu Singh said three main organisations are taking an important role in popularising Manipuri Sahitya the world over. Manipur is a small land but its Sahitya is rich, he added.
He further said that the people of our State lack the habit of reading books, which they need to cultivate as it is important in encouraging the writers of Manipur.
He also said that we get to see our oldest writers in every function as they take the awards again and again but now new writers are emerging who need to be encouraged.
He also expressed his intention of translating important books of the world written by renowned writers for the sake of Manipuri people who want to read these books in their own language.
Pashuram Thingnam bagged the Thokchom Jogendra Memorial Award for his book, Ei Amasung Eigi Ema. The award includes a cash prize of Rs 10, 000, a shawl and a citation. N Birchandra received the Moirangthem Chandrasingh Pandit Achouba Gold Medal for his book, Yek Shalai Houraklon Puwari Mityeng. The Telem Indubala Award was received by Vabendra Longjam for his translation of Hazari in English while the Tayenjam Jayenta Poetry Awards was received by RK Bhubonsana for his book, Shajibu Meira.
As a part of the function, RK Bhubonsana and Wangthoi Khuman were also felicitated for achieving the Sahitya Academy Bal Sahitya Puruskar and Sahitya Academy Yuva Puruskar respectively.
