Okendro assures to upgrade KGBVs upto class X standard

IMPHAL, February 28: The state government is making its best effort to insert class IX and X in every Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas in the State.

This was stated by Education Minister M Okendro, speaking at the inaugural function of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya at Konchak Heigumyangbi, Mayang Imphal organised by Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, State Mission Authority, Manipur today.

The State government will urge the Ministry of HRD to upgrade the KGBVs which have classes from only VI to VIII to upto class X standard.

He also assured that the government is doing its best on the matter.

Bringing quality education in the state is one of the main objectives of the State government whether it is private or government or aided institutes, he added.

The Education Minister also strongly condemned the reported incident at Medhabati School terming it an act of barbarism.

He informed that the government has given its order to probe into the incident at the earliest and to take up strict action against the culprits.

He also appealed to all the teachers, wardens and the school authorities to look after the students with tender love, care and guide them in the right way like their own children.

Giving his presidential speech at the function, Works and Transport Minister, Ratankumar, lauded Education Minister M Okendro for running the department efficiently.

He further said Mayang Imphal is known for judo and boxing as there are three Arjuna awardees and one Olympian.

He said 80 percent of the Judo players in India are from Manipur and out of which 70 percent are again from Mayang Imphal.

The state government is trying its best to setup a stadium for Judo by March at Koubru Leiji (Imphal-Bishnupur road), he informed.

Education (S) Secretary H Deleep Singh, speaking at the function said that KGBVs are set up in educationally backward blocks, where the female literacy rate is below the

National average (46.13 percent as per census 2001) and gender gap in literacy rate is below the national average of 21.67 percent.

He informed that MHRD sanctioned for KGBV in all the districts.

He further informed that the construction work for ten KGBV buildings have been entrusted to the engineering Wing of Education (Schools).
