BISHNUPUR, March 31: A sit in protest cum meeting was held by vendors of Lumlangdong Market, Bishnupur today against the passing of the Visitor`™s Bill by the government.
The protest was jointly organised by JCILPS Women Wing, Women organisations and clubs of Lumlangdong. Placards with slogans demanding withdrawal of the bill, implementation of ILP in the state, resignation of the CM for passing the bill, no to invite another volcanic ILP agitation, to provide pass for non-Manipuris and prohibit non-Manipuris from owning lands in the state were displayed.
Speaking on the occasion, JCILPS Women Wing executive member, W. Luwangleima said that only indigenous people died during the issue of AFSPA and not non-Manipuris. She also said that due to Indianisation, Manipur may become developed however, indigenous people will become extinct. The recently passed bill is for the protection of the non-Manipuris and to turn the indigenous people into their helpers, she said.
The vendors and shop owners closed down their business for the day to take part in the protest. Women organisations also took part in the protest.
