IMPHAL, March 11: Tarun Vijay, an MP of the BJP has hailed Manipur as India`™s sports capital, laying stress on the import of setting up a Sports University in the State during the zero hour of the Rjaya Sabha today, a BJP Manipur Pradesh official said.

The BJP MP also demanded the inclusion of Manipuri language in the Indian currency notes.

Lamenting that Manipur is reeling under insurgency and corruption during the 13 years of Congress rule in the State, he said the State government has embezzled 224 crores of rupees meant for cleansing the Loktak Lake off Phumdhis in Manipur. The MP further urged the government to have the 224 crores Loktak scandal investigated by an independent investigative body.

The youths of Manipur are born sportspersons and must be provided with the best sports facilities, he said, adding that the State with a population of just 27 lakhs is suffering because of more than 38 insurgency groups and rampant corruption under Chief Minister Okram Ibobi`™s Congress government.

The underground outfits of Manipur have banned Hindi and even a movie on the life of Manipur born boxer Mary Kom was not allowed in Manipur for being in the Hindi language. No language should be banned in India, Tarun Vijay said, emphasising that we must put the healing balm on Manipur by encouraging their great language.

Though Manipuri has been recognised by the Government of India under the eighth schedule, yet it doesn`™t find a place on Indian currency notes. Let that anomaly be corrected, demanded Tarun Vijay. Even though the PM Narendra Modi led government has approved of setting up a Sports University in Manipur, the State government has been unable to find a site for the proposed University, he said.

The demands made by BJP MP, Tarun Vijay on behalf of Manipur were supported by various MPs cutting across political parties.
