UKHRUL, March 3: Even though not a single case of Swine Flu has so far been detected in any part of the State, it is imperative to take precautionary measures to deal with any eventuality in Ukhrul district just as the same is true for anywhere else, said a district surveillance officer Dr. Ningreiwon of the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme ( IDSP), Ukhrul Division here on Monday.

Operating under the chief medical officer (CMO) of the district hospital, IDSP Ukhrul Division is practically attached to the OPD of the hospital, she said adding that as part of the precautionary measures, doctors of the hospital have been alerted to any cases of suspected Swine Flu symptoms among the OPD patients.

Cautioning that individuals coming from outside the State are among the susceptible groups, she said that suspected symptoms in such persons should not be ignored.

“In case of any suspicion, there are arrangements for isolating the patient with suspected symptoms after basic screening like monitoring temperature which stays above 100 degree,” Dr Ningreiwon continued adding that in cases requiring further medical attention, patients would be referred out to Imphal.

Even then, IDSP Ukhrul has not been provided any testing facilities for H1N1 virus and the test is supposedly costly, she rued.

At the same time, on being further queried if the district health authority has created any public awareness on the disease, she said that as of now no such programmes have been conducted in the district.
