IMPHAL, April 24: Forming of human chains around five Catholic schools has ensured that the schools record around 70 percent student attendance today, claimed All Manipur Students Union general secretary Manjit Sarangthem.

He also demanded that the details of the talk between the Catholic Schools Society director Paul Lelen Haokip and the proscribed outfit which had imposed the ban on the catholic schools since April 1 should be made public.

This will clear the fear psychosis created amongst the students and their guardians by the prolonged ban, he said.

The schools had been closed down since April 1 following a ban from an armed outfit.

Speaking to media persons at a press conference held at their headquarter, he said the human chains were formed so as to safeguard the students and the schools from any harm while reopening.

Human chains, he said have been formed around the Nirmalabas high School, Little Flower, St Joseph School, Catholic School and the Sacred Heart since April 22 to enable the schools to reopen without any apprehension, he said.

Schools are not any battlefield, where you fight to gain some demands, the student leader claimed.
